An Amazing Night

We’re all still pinching ourselves this morning, after last night’s show at Northaven.

More than 360 people packed the house to hear our “SuperHits of the 70s” show to benefit the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s work in Haiti.

And the response was nothing short of amazing.

Last night our assembled crowd raised $13,883!!**

Good Lord! (and we mean that literally...)

For perspective, we’ve now done over 25 shows in almost four full years. Before last night, the greatest single fundraising night to date was just over $7,000, and that was with a crowd of 500. Another crowd of 500 donated $5,000 on another occasion last year.

But no crowd has
ever been as generous as our audience last night. There was cleary an incredible energy. We are very clear that it wasn’t US who caused this response. It was the “kairos moment” of many in the audience wanting to make a difference, wanting to find a way to “connect” in mission, combined with a show that we already had on our schedule when the earthquake hit.

We know that there were many pictures taken during the night, so very soon we’ll post some photographs as they come our way.

We are deeply grateful to the generosity of all those who came, and to the kind people of Northaven Church for hosting us.

The situation in Haiti continues to be tragic, almost beyond comprehension, in terms of its misery.

200,000 dead.
2 million now homeless.

Yesterday also marked the funeral day for the head of UMCOR, Rev. Sam Dixon, who was among those killed in the earthquake. He joins Rev. Clint Rabb (whose funeral is today in Austin) who was the head of UM Volunteers in Mission, and Jean Arnwine, a volunteer with the HPUMC Eye Clinic Team, as those who have died trying to bring healing to Haiti on behalf of the UMC.

While the reality of the pain and suffering are immeasurable, we are so humbled to be able to say...
Thank you to all who came
Thank you to those who tuned in to the live, web-streaming feed, or gave to UMCOR directly on our behalf
Thank you for doing what you can to help Haiti, and for allowing us to be a part of your response.

Connections Band

ps: if you would still like to donate directly to UMCOR, please go here. You’ll find information about the UMCOR response to Haiti overall, and also a link where you can give online right now.

** This is an updated total, with more funds continuing to trickle in still. We’ll update from time to time.

Announcement Concerning the Jan. 22nd Show

Dear Connection Friends:
Events in Haiti are heartbreaking to all of us. We are left feeling helpless and wondering what we can do to make a difference.
Our longtime fans will know our passion for “United Methodist Committee on Relief,” and how we have raised tens of thousand of dollars for them in the past.
Because of events in Haiti, we are switching the beneficiary of our January 22nd show to “Haiti Earthquake Relief.”
Here is a reminder of the show details:

Year End Report for 2009

Dear Connectors:
We hope you’ve been having a blessed holiday season. Connections wants to take a moment to thank you all for another great year in the life of our band.

2009 was one of our biggest years yet. We played seven shows in front of thousands of people, and raised over $25,000 for our two worthy beneficiaries.
This included our biggest single show ever, fund-raising-wise, at FUMC Garland in mid-summer.
We debuted our new “SuperHits of the 70s” show in September, and we look forward to playing it several times in early 2010.
We thought you might be interested in seeing some of the specifics...sort of an “Annual Report” for the band.....
Here are the specifics of the funds we raised for mission.
To date, we’ve played 24 shows where offerings have been taking, since our very first show in 2006. Those shows have now raised almost $75,000 for our two missional causes, UMCOR and “Nothing But Nets.”

Here’s the breakdown by beneficiary. Almost three quarters of the funds we’ve raised have gone to “Nothing But Nets,” with just over $21,000 going to UMCOR.

Finally, here’s a breakdown of the funds raised per year:

As always, we are so grateful to each of you who come out to hear our band play. We’re grateful to all the venues/churches who host us. And we’re grateful to God for allowing us to be a part of such a great endeavor.
We’re looking toward 2010!!
Please check out the “Shows” section of our website for additions to the schedule now.
Our first shows in 2010 are on January 22nd (Northaven), and Feburary 5th (Rockwall). So, mark your calendars now!
Peace and love to you in this holiday season,
Connections

353 Net Night

Dear Connectors:
Thanks to all the great people at Walnut Hill for a *great* show Sunday night. It was our “Tribute to Dan Fogelberg” show, and as always it was great fun to play it for an appreciative crowd.

And, the fantastic news is that, between the funds raised that night and an anonymous donor, we raised:

$ 3,353 dollars!!!

That’s 353 nets for families in Africa, and perhaps 600 persons who will be saved from the killer of malaria.

As always, we appreciate the crowds who come to our shows, and are gratified by all those who donate to the cause. We’ll have more later, but here’s an initial sound clip from the show:

Wondering what’s next?

Superhits of the 70s!!!

It’s gonna be amazing.
More information soon.
Hope you’re all have a GREAT summer.

A 1,000 Net Night!!!

Dear Connectors:

Wow, what a show last night in Garland!!!

We had around 400 folks show up for the Chicago/Eagles Tribute show there...so many that folks were spilling out of the room and into the hallway...probably 100 folks in the hall crammed in to hear.

And there was a *great* energy in the room.

Most amazingly, because of a special matching grant offer this month, our funds raised last night will very likely total:

$
10,000!!!

That clearly makes last night the biggest fundraising night ever in our history.

But it’s not about the money, of course. It’s about saving lives from the scourge of malaria. And with that money...

1,000 mosquito nets will be sent to Sierra Leone, saving the lives of thousands of people!!!

As of last night, we also passed the $60,000 mark in total funds raised. See the update chart here:
fundsraised

Thanks to all who came to the show. We’re deeply grateful to our eve-growing number of fans and supporters. It’s such a blessing to be able to play this great music for you, to have such fun, and to raise money for such a worthy cause.

Peace,
Connections Band

$50,000!!!

Just a brief entry to note what is an amazing milestone for Connections....

As of our show last night at FUMC Coppell, the band has raised more than $50,000 for our missional causes!!!

The Coppell show, um, netted $3,250 for "Nothing But Nets." We had a GREAT show, with almost 300 fans in attendance. People were singing along with every James Taylor and Carole King tune.

As always, we are extremely grateful for all the folks who show up for our shows, for the artists who write these great songs, for the more than 50 members of our band, and for God who makes it all possible.

Hope to see you at a show soon!
